About AIMS Transforming Africa Through Science
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is one of Africa's most prestigious pan-African networks of centres of excellence dedicated to postgraduate training, research, and public engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Founded in 2003 with its first centre in Cape Town, South Africa, AIMS has since grown significantly, establishing additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and two centres right here in Rwanda. Its mission is clear and powerful: to empower Africa's most talented young people to become creative leaders in Science and Technology.
Each AIMS Centre provides expertly tailored academic and non-academic programmes, training approximately 60 African students per Master's programme every year, and preparing them to take on leadership roles in academia, government, and industry. The Opportunity IT Support Intern
Position: IT Support Intern

AIMS RIC is looking for a motivated, service-oriented IT Support Intern who will work closely with the IT Coordinator to ensure that staff, students, classrooms, and shared office systems receive timely and effective technical support. This is a hands-on, practical role that sits at the heart of the Centre's daily operations.
What You Will Be Doing
As the IT Support Intern, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing first-line technical support for power issues, network connectivity, printers, computers, and other end-user devices
- Troubleshooting user issues and escalating more complex incidents to the relevant team members when required
- Creating and configuring user accounts on computers and providing related technical assistance
- Installing approved software on staff and student computers and ensuring all software tools remain up to date
- Supporting the setup and testing of projectors, microphones, speakers, and sound systems for classrooms, meetings, and academic events
- Monitoring assigned helpdesk tickets, documenting all actions taken, and following through each issue to resolution
- Maintaining clear records of support activities, recurring issues, and completed interventions
- Providing support for any additional IT-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor
This is a role where no two days are exactly alike. You will be at the centre of the action supporting students, staff, and academic events that drive real scientific progress across Africa.

Are You the Right Candidate?
AIMS RIC is looking for someone who meets the following requirements:
Academic Qualifications: A University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field is required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, common office applications, and routine software installation
- Ability to troubleshoot user devices, printers, internet connectivity, and audio-visual equipment
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-directed with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
Personal Attributes:
- Demonstrated interest in IT support, technical services, or systems administration
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a service-focused environment
- Commitment to the mission and values of AIMS
Added Advantage: Previous internship, volunteer, or hands-on experience in IT support will give your application an extra edge.
